Founded in 1995, Laker Energy Products emerged as a leading material organization supplying nuclear grade pipe, tubing, fittings, fasteners and other pressure retaining components to the CANDU® nuclear power industry. As customer demand for new, reliable sources for reactor components grew, our company evolved into a fully integrated, high-precision machining, assembly and testing facility. Domestically and internationally, we deliver the precision and performance demanded by our customers in the nuclear and energy industries.

Poised for Growth in the Candu® Nuclear Power Market

 

100% of Laker’s business is in the Candu® nuclear power sector. To handle in-house orders for Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG’s) Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project and to prepare for ongoing plant life extension projects in Ontario over the next 15 years as well as upcoming new-build projects in Argentina, Romania, China and the UK, Laker has purchased a second 65,000 sf. ft. manufacturing facility and tripled its machining capacity. Recent equipment purchases include a third new Zeiss scanning CMM with a 4.2 m bed and a new Tacchi deep hole drilling/bottle boring machine. Plant 1 will continue to produce smaller components and Plant 2 will specifically manufacture longer items, including Candu® Fuel Channel End Fittings and Liners.

 

In the fall of 2015, a new Shutoff and Adjuster Drive testing tower (63 ft in height) will be constructed at Plant 2, positioning Laker as the only manufacturer qualified to build and test these critical reactor components.

 

 

COMPLEX CNC MACHINING AND ASSEMBLY

 

 

Today’s innovative technologies and dramatic advances in both machinery and materials provide exciting new opportunities for accuracy and consistency previously not possible. Laker Energy Products specializes in the manufacture of complex components under extremely tight quality parameters. Dimensional tolerances to 4 decimals are the norm at Laker and repeatable compliance to this level of accuracy requires experienced machinists, specialized raw materials and the highest caliber of CNC equipment.

 

To meet demand, we have the capability to run dark, with robotically loaded CNC machines manufacturing parts to exacting quality standards 24/7.

 

To maintain our lead position with our customers, we invest heavily in skilled personnel and state-of-the-art equipment. Along with our innovative engineering team, our dedicated machinists and millwrights enjoy taking on any challenge and are proficient at complex machining of many grades of Inconel, stainless steel and super alloys. With numerous single- and twin-spindle lathes, live tooling, four- and five-axis milling, and the most advanced simultaneous multi-axis CAM software available on the market, Laker hits the tolerance band every time.

 

At Laker, all we do is nuclear and therefore the governing ASME Section III Code quality requirements are ingrained in all of our employees, not just the QA/QC departments.

All machined components are uniquely identified and tracked throughout the manufacturing process. Most in-process and all final dimensional inspections are performed using the latest scanning CMM equipment and software with dimensional reports archived for permanent traceability. To ensure the highest grade components, vacuum arc remelt (VAR) material is a basic typical starting point at Laker even when not specified. We carefully scrutinize and monitor all of our material vendors and all incoming raw stock is evaluated for consistency and conformity to our standards.

 

From rigorous vendor audits, to multiple work-in-process inspections, our engineering, manufacturing and inspection teams ensure that nothing leaves our plant without the unwavering Laker quality guarantee.
